At All Children’s Hospital, we are dedicated to the safety, health and well-being of our patients. Protecting the infants, children and teens in our care is at the heart of all that we do. This includes protecting our patients from communicable diseases such as influenza (flu).
All employees, physicians and allied health professionals with clinical privileges, students, trainees, volunteers and vendors must receive the flu vaccine each year.
The goal of mandatory flu immunization is to help protect our patients from flu and the risks it poses to children with critical or chronic illness. At any given time, more than half of the children hospitalized at ACH are too young or too immunosuppressed to receive the flu vaccine. Full immunization of All Children’s personnel helps to protect our patients to the greatest possible extent.

Employees (Including Employed Physicians)
Every All Children’s Hospital employee must receive the flu vaccine from Employee Health Services or submit proof of immunization from a flu shot received off campus by November 18 (one week prior to Thanksgiving).
The vaccine is mandatory for all employees except those with an approved exemption based on certain medical conditions or on the basis of sincerely held religious beliefs. A religious exemption request must be submitted by October 1, 2015 to Janet Winder, Employee Ombudsman at 727-767-8919. A medical exemption request must be submitted to Employee Health Services by October 1, 2015.
Except in the case of a permanent medical condition, medical and religious exemption requests must be resubmitted each year. Please note that there is now an egg-free vaccine available for employees with a history of severe egg allergy (as documented by an allergist).

Non-Employed Medical Staff and Other Credentialed Allied Health Professionals including ARNPs and PAs
Physicians, PAs, ARNPs and other credentialed employees of private medical staff with clinical privileges need to receive the flu vaccine and then provide proof of immunization to the All Children's Employee Health Services by November 18, 2015. Failure to be immunized by that date will result in suspension of privileges until proof of immunization is provided, or until the ACH Vice President of Medical Affairs declares flu season has ended.
These staff members may receive the vaccine through Employee Health or off campus. In the latter case, they must obtain proof of immunization for submission to Employee Health by November 19, 2015.
All volunteers must receive the flu vaccine or must provide proof of immunization to Employee Health Services by November 18, 2015.
The flu vaccine is available free of charge to volunteers from Employee Health Services. Volunteers who are Medicare participants, are to receive the flu vaccine from your physician or a community provider (such as a pharmacy). Be sure to obtain proof of immunization and bring it to Employee Health Services, located one floor below the Volunteer Office by November 18, 2015.
Volunteers who do not provide proof that they have received the flu vaccine by November 18, 2015 (one week prior to Thanksgiving) will not be able to volunteer until the ACH Vice President of Medical Affairs declares flu season has ended.

Students and Trainees
Any medical students, nursing students or allied health students and trainees must receive the vaccine before they can participate in training at All Children’s Hospital at any time before November 18, 2015.
Nursing students and allied health students must provide this documentation to their school.
Medical students and residents must provide this documentation to the Office of Medical Education.
Any other students or trainees must provide this documentation to the person who will be supervising their educational experience at All Children’s Hospital.
Vendors should upload proof of immunization by following instructions found in the VendorMate kiosk.
Vendors who do not submit proof of immunization by November 18, 2015 will not be able to enter the ACH campus until the ACH Vice President of Medical Affairs declares flu season has ended. Please direct any questions to Beth Walker, Purchasing Manager at 727-767-4382.
Information for Patients & Family Members
Because your child’s health and well-being are very important to us, All Children’s Hospital now requires that our personnel receive the flu vaccine each year. The goal of our policy is to protect our patients as much as possible. First, we hope that you will do your part, too.
We recommend the flu vaccine for all of our patients who are over six months of age and have medical clearance. Talk with your child’s doctor about the vaccine.
We also encourage parents, brothers and sisters, and other household members and caregivers to get a flu shot. The flu vaccine is also available in a nasal spray for healthy individuals between the ages of 2 and 49.
Getting the flu vaccine is a positive and important step in protecting your family’s health.
