All Children's Celebrates New Brandon Specialty Care Center With Butterfly Fun For Kids

(February 24, 2006) Brandon, FL – All Children’s Hospital wants its young patients from the Brandon area to breeze through visits with doctors and therapists much closer to home. That’s what the new All Children’s Specialty Care of Brandon is designed for. In celebration, beautiful butterflies will take flight at a Grand Opening of the new Brandon Center on Saturday March 4th from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.  Youngsters and their families will enjoy animals from Lowry Park Zoo, ice cream, Chick-Fil-A treats, and various games & giveaways.  A celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for 12:30 PM, followed by a butterfly release at 1 PM. Tours of the new facility at 885 Parsons Avenue South in Brandon will be available throughout the event.

All Children’s Specialty Care of Brandon is located on a five-acre site on Parsons Avenue south of State Road 60. Construction on the project began in May of 2005. With over 21,000 square feet of space and the latest equipment and technology for pediatric outpatient care, the $3.9-million center is now home to pediatric rehabilitative services in physical, occupational and speech therapy as well as audiology services. There is even space for an outdoor occupational & physical therapy area. The new center also provides clinic space where pediatric specialists from the St. Petersburg campus of All Children's Hospital can see Brandon-area patients much closer to home.  The first patients began receiving services at the Brandon center on Monday, February 13, 2006.

Several All Children’s patients will be among the dignitaries participating in the ceremonial ribbon cutting planned for the Grand Opening event. They include:

  • Sabrina Dueck, age 6 and her brother Stefan, age 8, from Riverview. They both underwent minimally invasive surgery for an inherited blood disorder at All Children’s main campus and will be featured on the 2006 All Children’s Hospital Telethon this June.
  • Xavier Luster, age 3 ½, from Lithia. Xavier receives speech therapy at the Brandon Center.
  • Nicole Nisbet, age 9, from Lithia.  Nicole also receives speech therapy at the Brandon Center.
  • Alexander Quimby, age 5, from Winter Haven. Alexander receives speech, occupational and physical therapy at the Brandon Center.
  • Andrew Thompson, age 5, from Lakeland.  Andrew followed his speech therapist when she transferred to Brandon from All Children’s Lakeland Center due to the great progress he is making.

Others anticipated to take part in the ceremony include All Children’s Health System President and CEO Gary Carnes, the “Honorary Mayor” of Brandon James Young, and Specialty Care of Brandon Center Director Connie Joy.

The public is welcome to attend this free fun-filled event.  Media interested in covering the celebration should contact All Children’s Media Relations Manager Ann Miller at (727) 767-8592.
