Congratulations to the Graduates of the ACH RN Residency Program - Cohort 8

Cohort 8Eight ACH nurses graduated last week from Cohort 8 of the RN Residency Program. This group began their nursing careers at ACH in August 2012.

Graduates included:

PICU (*part of the Critical Care RN Residency Track) - Katie Deemer, Marianna Broz
CVICU (*part of the Critical Care RN Residency Track)  - Mary Bottaro
8 North - Vanessa Bailey
7 North - Mary Kamin, Megan Murray
NICU - Katherine Glazer, Jacquelyn Antonell

* The 3 residents in the Critical Care RN Residency Track began their RN roles on the Pediatric Medicine unit, then took part in an intense critical care education program.  Toward the end of their first year, they transitioned fully to the ICU environment. This is our second group of RN Residents who have completed the Critical Care Track.

"Imagine coming out of nursing school and being selected for a critical care residency.  There is so much to absorb your first year and we want to make it an environment that is safe and based on milestones," said Hella Ewing, ACH Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer. "Getting to know your hospital, time management skills, computer documentation and fine tuning assessment skills are all essential first steps for any new nurse. This program allows them to build their foundation prior to transitioning them to the critical care environment. We are proud of their accomplishment."

The All Children's Hospital RN Residency Program is dedicated to providing a 12-month foundational program for the graduate or otherwise eligible nurse to provide the support and knowledge to grow into a competent pediatric professional practitioner. In addition to hospital nursing orientation, the RN Residency Program consists of 40 hours of general classes within the first 10 weeks, followed by a 4-hour survive & thrive session, scheduled monthly for the remainder of the first year. These classes are accompanied by preceptor-led orientation to the unit of hire, unit specific classes and training, looping opportunities to other hospital departments and services, simulation, a mentor program, clinical debriefings, and support time/self-care sessions.
