As VIP Auctions go, in the words of Michael Jackson, you couldn't beat it.

The "Totally Awesome '80s" theme of the 25th annual VIP Auction lived up to its name in every way. The event, presented by the All Children's Hospital Development Council, was a smash hit Saturday night, April 13 at the Carillon Hilton.

The bidding on an array of dazzling items and cool travel packages raised money for the All Children's Autism Center, once again raising important funds to find better ways of diagnosing, assessing and rehabilitating children with autism and other developmental disorders.

More than 320 attendees to the volunteer-driven event, deftly coordinated by Waleska Lozada of the ACH Development Council, were treated to a full night of sights and sounds from the '80s: props such as two giant "Aqua Net" hairspray bottles on stage, over-size Rubik Cubes at every table, shades for everyone (so they could get in the spirit of the '80s hit and wear their sunglasses at night), and cool neon colors of blue, orange and pink throughout the packed hall.

Guests also enjoyed a delicious dinner and danced the night away to the familiar rockin' songs of the decade performed by ACH editor/writer Dave Scheiber's Ocean Road Band - joined on stage by creative services director Mike Sexton on lead guitar and featuring a special, rock-singing appearance by Drew Rabin, husband of ACH Foundation executive vice president Jenine Rabin.

"The dance floor was on fire!" said Waleska.

"This was my first VIP Auction and I was very impressed with the event for a few key reasons: 1. Our sponsorships were up by over 20% compared to last year; The live auction was up almost 60% compared to last year; 3. The energy in the room and from our guests was incredible," Jenine said. "I think that it speaks to the commitment that people feel to the community of ACH and our mission. I thank Waleska Lozada for her great work on VIP (and only one month into the job of Development Council Coordinator) and the entire Development Council for producing an exceptional event to benefit ACH."

Along with the band, many attendees donned classic '80s attire or dressed like iconic figures of the era - from Madonna to Richard Simmons to Bruce Springsteen.

Another highlight was an appearance and talk by the Brew Family, whose 7-year-old son Kamryn is benefitting from therapy at the Autism Center.

All in all, it was a night to remember from one wild and crazy decade.
