All Children's Teams Up for the Rays Dugout Club

Rays Dugout ClubAll Children's Hospital has teamed up with the Tampa Bay Rays, the City of St. Petersburg, and the Edible Peace Patch Project to promote healthy eating and fitness through the Rays Dugout Club program. This program is reaching over 1,200 students ranging from 6 to 12 years of age.

The program is available at local community centers, including: Wildwood, Campbell Park, Lake Vista, Child's Park, Gladden Park and Frank Pierce.

The Rays Dugout Club includes a wellness kitchen with All Children's nutrition and culinary team, fitness tips and instruction with Ray's players, a walk to and from a Ray's afternoon game, seed tables with the Edible Peace Patch and messaging to help promote healthy eating.

Involving children in the cooking process helps teach valuable life skills and creates adventurous eaters. During the Wellness Kitchen, campers have the opportunity to gain basic culinary skills and learn fun nutrition facts while trying three delicious recipes. Each recipe was designed to introduce kids to more fruits and veggies as well as to promote new foods, such as mango, kale, cilantro, and other fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

Surveys are being conducted and the partners will evaluate the success of this unique summer program.
