I would like to nominate Kentlee Battick for the Daisy Award. Kentlee is one of our Clinical Leaders in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). She exudes all the qualities you would expect in a clinical leader. She is a strong and objective leader, remains calm and in control in any situation, and is self-sacrificing. One evening when I was in charge Kentlee had chosen to take a specific patient assignment, which she does on many occasions. This particular patient was in the process of becoming a potential organ donor. Kentlee helped advocate for the family to be able to go through the withdrawal of care process, as they wished for the patient to become a donor. Kentlee, without a second thought, said she was staying with the patient until they made it to the OR. In the end, the patient was unable to become a donor. It was because of Kentlee, in conjunction with other members of the ACH Staff, that the withdrawal of care happened as peacefully as possible with the parents holding the patient and each other.
All this made a very difficult moment become a truly sacred moment for the family. Kentlee continually goes above and beyond in order to ensure the best care possible for the patients and families in the PICU. She can often be found coming in early, staying late, picking up patient assignments, and always seeming to be exactly where she's needed. Kentlee exemplifies everything it means to be a leader in nursing.
"Kentlee has been a valuable member of the PICU team since 2004 when she started as a graduate nurse," said Melissa Macogay, BSN, RN, CCRN, Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. "We have watched her grow into a successful leader in our unit. She displays a perfect balance of compassion; kindness and empathy toward our patients, families and co-workers. Kentlee consistently goes above and beyond and is frequently being recognized by her co-workers for always taking the time, regardless of how busy she may be, to stop and listen or teach someone something new. She is a tremendous asset to our PICU and All Children's Hospital."
Thank you Kentlee, for your service excellence to All Children's Hospital and your continued passion to pursue perfection.
