The Firehouse Chili Cook-off and Block Party on Sat. Oct. 13 stirred up lots of fun and good chili. The event, presented by Kohls and All Children's Hospital gave kids and families the opportunity to get upclose with fire and rescue trucks, enjoy bounce houses, face painting, K-9 demos, a birthday celebration with Sparky the fire mascot and participate in the very tasty family chili cookoff. The event was held in St. Petersburg at the St. Pete Fire and Rescue's Fossil Park Station.
Twelve families participated in the yummy Firehouse Chili Cook-off event and competed for top chili recipe prizes. Everyone attending the event was invited to taste test all the recipes from the young chefs. A panel of judges, including culinary experts and firefighters, were on hand to decide on the top recipes, that included: Smoky Slow Cooker Chili from Chef Natalie, 5 de Mayo Fiesta Chili from Chef Clara; BJ's Chili from Chef Brandon; and BVB Chili from Chef Aaliyah.
The Kohl's team from the St. Petersburg store were on hand to present All Children's Hospital with a special check for $218,594 through the Kohl's Cares program to continue the efforts for the Kohl's Cooks for Kids programs.
For the past three years, a grant from Kohl's has been supporting the efforts at All Children's to help families learn about nutrition and preparing healthy meals. Under the Kohl's grant All Children's offers fun and interactive classes and events that encourage children to make healthy choices and teaches them basic culinary skills so they can assist the family in making tasty and healthy recipes.
