All Children’s Partners with Pinellas Schools To Celebrate Centennial

All Children's Hospital is a community sponsor of the Pinellas County Schools Centennial Celebration.  The year-long celebration will kick off with a "Hands Across Pinellas" event, Saturday, Sept. 24, from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. along the Pinellas Trail. All Children's family and members of the community are invited to cheer on the Centennial runners and enjoy some ice cream.

According to the Centennial Committee, each decade will be highlighted though monthly events. Ice cream socials brought early Pinellas County residents together and this tradition continues with a unifying district event and 10,000 cups of ice cream at 10 different kick off sites along the Pinellas Trail. Sites include:

  • Sweetbay Supermarket; 1171 S Pinellas Ave., Tarpon Springs
  • Wall Springs Park; 3725 DeSoto Blvd., Palm Harbor
  • Ozona Elementary; 601 Tampa Rd., Palm Harbor
  • Mildred Helms Elementary; 561 Clearwater-Largo Rd., Largo
  • Taylor Park; 1100 8th Ave., Largo
  • Ridgecrest Elementary; 1901 119th St., Largo
  • Orange Grove Elementary; 10200 65th Ave., Seminole
  • Pasadena Fundamental Elementary; 95 72nd St., St. Petersburg
  • Fairmount Park Elementary; 575 41st St., St. Petersburg
  • Gibbs High School; 850 34th St., St. Petersburg

More than 20 high school cross-country runners will cover the Pinellas Trail from Tarpon Springs to St. Petersburg, carrying the "flame of knowledge" torch in Olympic style. Starting at both ends of the Trail (Sweetbay Supermarket and Gibbs High sites), a runner and a bicyclist will carry the torch for approximately four miles then pass it on to the next runner and cyclist until the last runner and cyclist reach Taylor Park, the mid-point site. The main event will take place at Taylor Park around noon with the presentation of Centennial medals to the 20 cross-country runners.
