Lettie Skon, RN is the DAISY Award Recipient for May, 2011

Lettie Skon, RN is the May, 2011 DAISY Award recipient. Lettie has been with ACH for 18 years. She has worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and with the IV Team. She currently works in the Radiology Department. She has a BSN Degree from Florida State University. The DAISY Award is presented monthly to an All Children's Hospital Nurse that has provided extraordinary service to our patients.

A staff member recently wrote:

Last week there was a patient on the floor who needed a CAT scan. It was close to the change of shift and the patient needed to be sedated, which required the services of a nurse. Our nurses were going home and the nurses upstairs were very busy. I approached Lettie with questions regarding the type of sedation that was needed. Even though her day was done, she willingly talked to the patient's doctor and then stayed to monitor the patient so the floor nurse would not have to be away from her other patients. Lettie finished up her work and then came to the CAT scan to help me. Things took a bit longer than expected, but she stayed and was as pleasant as if she was just starting her day. Lettie demonstrated superior customer care and teamwork. She put the patient first.

"Lettie has been a valuable ACH employee for the past 18 years.  She is one of the most compassionate nurses I have ever worked with," said Karen Schmitt, RN, Radiology Nurse Supervisor. "She has a tremendous amount of empathy for our patients and families. Her nursing skills are superb. Prior to working in Radiology, Lettie spent time working with the IV team. That experience has proven to be a huge asset to our department. She is the "go to" nurse for all those difficult IV sticks. We often tell Lettie that if she ever wants to retire from nursing, she could be a standup comedienne. Not a day goes by that Lettie does not have our staff in tears from laughter. She is also very sensitive to the stress and challenges that we encounter on a daily basis.  Lettie is able to lift our spirits when the need arises.  For that, we truly thank her."

Thank you Lettie, for your service excellence to All Children's Hospital and your continued passion to pursue perfection.
