One of our All Children’s Telethon stars is headed for the nation’s capital and national recognition on this year’s Children’s Miracle Network show. Katie Thai has been chosen to represent Florida youngsters who receive care from Children’s Miracle Network hospitals in the 2007 Champions Across America program presented by CO-OP Financial Services and Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union. The children selected to participate in this high-profile public awareness campaign will be excellent ambassadors for our collective cause as they represent the millions of kids served each year by Children’s Miracle Network hospitals.
Six-year old Katie is a graduate of our intensive feeding program, Happy Mealtimes. Due to severe gastric problems as an infant, she never learned to eat and tolerate food until she enrolled in our unique program at age four. Her care team soon found that they could motivate Katie to complete all her therapy goals by allowing her to sing for an audience – no matter how big or small. Katie stole the show last June when she appeared on the All Children’s Telethon to sing “If We Hold On Together.” Now a happy, healthy first-grader, Katie enjoys eating as much as singing --- she’s especially fond of lobster!
On March 25th, All Children’s Hospital sent off our CMN Champion with a singular opportunity to sing to a huge crowd. Katie performed the National Anthem prior to the annual “Baseball for Kids” Legends Game at Bright House Networks Field in Clearwater. Baseball Hall-of-Famer Wade Boggs and Ace Young from the fifth season of "American Idol" were among the celebrities playing, along with former Major Leaguers Bob Feller, Ferguson Jenkins, Gaylord Perry, Goose Gossage, Ken Griffey, Sr., Tommy John, Al Leiter, Denny McLain, J.R. Richard and many more. Proceeds from “Baseball for Kids” benefit All Children’s Hospital and the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association.
As part of Champions Across America, Katie and her parents will travel to Washington, DC at the end of March to bring the message of children’s healthcare needs to our lawmakers. Next, they’ll travel to Disney World, for videotaping of national segments for June broadcast on the 2007 Children’s Miracle Network telethons across America.
Our congratulations to Katie and her family – and many thanks for their willingness to draw attention to the Children’s Miracle Network cause!
