|All Children's Hospital Receives Pinellas School District Honor|
All Children's Hospital has received the 2013-2014 Pinellas County Schools "Friend of Health Education" Award. The award was presented on May 22 by the Pinellas County School Board in recognition of the hospital's support of making a significant difference in the lives of students.
The hospital was honored for its ongoing leadership to help educate Pinellas school children to be healthy and safe. The award credits the hospital's continued funding for the MORE HEALTH program, which brings a variety of health and injury prevention programs to Pinellas County Schools.
"We are very pleased to be recognized by the school board," said Mary Decker Mahoney, ACH Director of Community Relations & Strategic Engagement. "We enjoy our collaboration with teachers, coaches and school nurses on numerous programs impacting the health and safety of children."
The hospital's collaboration and support of the Safe Kids Coalition has helped teach thousands of children about the importance of bike and pedestrian safety, along with tips to stay safe in and around the water. All Children's also helped to acquire the Florida Blue Foundation Grant that will focus on healthy lifestyles for Lakewood High School students.
All Children's is also involved with the the PEP Grant. This grant was awarded to 96 communities nationwide and will be a 3-year project. Locally, this grant will serve the students at 23 Pinellas County middle schools and one high school. The hospital will be the nutrition and culinary expert for this grant and will work closely with administration, food service and teachers to encourage students to adopt healthy eating habits as well as increase their knowledge in nutrition education.
