|All Children’s Helps “Be the Match” Find Life-Saving Donors|
More than 40 people, including many ACH employees took time to register to be a bone marrow donor during the Be the Match Bone Marrow Drive at All Children's Hospital on Thursday, January 30.
"We've had a great partnership with all children's Hospital for many years," said Marc Silver, Sr. Account Executive for Be the Match. "Today's turnout was great. They are always helping us get more people on the registry, which is important because we have a lot of patients being treated right here at this hospital.
"We have over 12,000 people currently searching for a match and over 10 million who have already signed up. All it takes is a swab of the cheek to see if you could save someone's life. If you are a match, over 75% of the time it's just like donating blood," he said
Douglas Peterson, who works in the hospital's maintenance department, was one of the many employees who stopped by the table to have his cheek swabbed. When asked why he signed up, he responded, "To help a child."
Be The Match Registry is operated by the National Marrow Donor Program. Every person who joins increases the odds that patients will find the match they need. For more information, contact Marc Silver at 727-329-1952.
