Cecilia Dofka, RN is the December 2013 DAISY Award Recipient

Cecilia Dofka, RN - Dec. 2013 DAISY AwardCecilia Dofka, RN is the December 2013 DAISY Award recipient. She has been a nurse on 8 North for the past two years. The DAISY Award is presented monthly to an All Children's Hospital Nurse who has provided extraordinary service to our patients.

Cecilia was nominated by a parent who wrote:

After having a G-tube inserted, my son began experiencing significant pain the following day. Cecilia took our concerns very seriously and advocated for my son's condition to be further investigated. She showed such kindness and compassion for my son and family, as she treated us in a fashion that showed that not only did she understand our concerns and sense of urgency, but that she too cared about what was going on as evidenced by her continued follow up both with myself and the physicians.

Cecilia displayed excellent clinical care, and involved my family in decision-making, while ensuring that her response time was immediate to all of our requests including the IV beeping, as my son is hypersensitive to loud noises. Even after putting us behind schedule for a CT scan, Cecilia didn't mind and worked diligently with the care team to push back the CT scan while still getting it completed in a timely manner. Cecilia communicated well and kept us up to date of all results and information as soon as she received it, so that we knew what was happening every step of the way.

Cecilia took the time to explain everything to my family, and even asked for me to explain what I knew so she could ensure that I understood everything correctly. She took extra time that morning to ensure the day shift nurse knew everything and that all of our needs were met. She was culturally competent and was very respectful. Having Cecilia on this particular night was such a blessing as my son's complications led to an emergency surgery. I feel that having any other nurse would've been incomparable to Cecilia and she truly made such a difference and impact on what was the scariest night of my life. Cecilia's quick response, her sound judgment, and her taking our concerns seriously and advocating on our behalf helped the staff relieve my son's immense amount of pain. If Cecilia had a million other things going on that night, I would've never known as she treated us as though we were her only patient providing good care and love. I'm so glad that I can trust my son's care to such an incredible nurse as Cecilia and All Children's is truly blessed to have her on their team. Please award Cecilia with the DAISY award because she is well above the standard for a great nurse, she is an AMAZING nurse.
