Jessica Siebold, RN is the September 2013 Daisy Award recipient. She began her career at All Children's Hospital in 2006. She is a graduate of St. Petersburg College and holds a BS Degree in Nursing. Jessica earned her Operating Room Certification (CNOR) in 2009. The DAISY Award is presented monthly to an All Children's Hospital Nurse who has provided extraordinary service to our patients.
I am writing to nominate Jessica for the Daisy Award. Recently, during a full schedule in the operating room, we were down a staff member on a very busy morning. Jessica quickly became part of the plan. We both stepped up to the plate and split the work of the third person. We switched from role to role all day. It was excellent teamwork that allowed us to take care of our patients. Since the room was running like clockwork, we had completed several cases before the anesthesia team realized we were down a team member. Jessica stepped into a role and completed the day with a good attitude and a lot of effort. The patients did not notice any difference. We took care of all of them and no cases were cancelled. Jessica asked a lot of questions and pushed herself to her limit, keeping a big smile all day. It was a very stressful and unusual day but we coped as a team and got a lot of satisfaction out of a great day with the two of us working together.
Jessica's supervisor, Penny Boyd, RN, MSN, CNOR, Administrative Director Perioperative Services, said:
Jessica is a role model for all future new RN graduates wishing to become OR Nurses. "As an RN III, she has been trained to cover all services within the OR where she circulates and scrubs in on a number of specialty procedures. Her attitude is always positive and she contributes ideas and suggestions for change to improve department processes.
She has been a member of both the Hospital-Wide Practice council, the Perioperative Unit based Practice Council and is now a new member on both Perioperative Unit based Education Council and RN OR representative on the multidisciplinary Perioperative Quality and Performance Committee. She also participated in the Nursing Leadership Cohort that developed the "Wellness Program." She is admired and respected by both the physicians, staff and management team. It has been a pleasure and honor to have Jessica as a team member in Perioperative Services.
Thank you Jessica, for the compassionate care you provide our patients.
