On April 26, Tim Wise, a well-known writer and educator spoke on Racial Inequities in Healthcare at All Children's. Representatives from the community, ACH, Bayfront Medical Center, Moffitt Cancer Center, USF, the Center of Equal Health and the Pinellas County Health Department were in the audience of approximately 200. The afternoon program was part of the observance of National Minority Health Month and the fifth annual Stand Against Racism. In his speech, Wise convincingly demonstrated how classism, racism and privilege are linked, and how U.S. culture has inadvertently contributed to a deepening indifference towards the plight of the poor, specifically in healthcare.

Mr. Wise is known for his frank but honest lectures on racial issues and he has provided anti-racism training nationally to teachers, physicians and medical professionals. As a regular contributor to discussions about race and privilege, Wise continues to challenge beliefs and generate thoughts of racial fairness and progression. While in St. Petersburg, Wise was also the keynote speaker for an evening lecture at Eckerd College as part of the YWCA's Stand Against Racism. Several community organizations, including All Children's, were recognized by the YWCA as a sponsor of the program.
