A yearly flu vaccine is one of the most important things families can do to protect a child's health. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that all children over the age of six months receive the flu vaccine every year.

(Posted on Sep 16, 2014) St. Petersburg – September 16, 2014 - All Children’s Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine received a $215,980 grant from Kohl’s Department Stores to continue its Kohl’s Cooks for Kids community-based healthy living program for the eighth year. The program encourages families to cook and eat healthy meals together, with the ultimate goal of preventing childhood obesity. Families also learn basic culinary skills and how to prepare healthy recipes on a budget.

The color scheme at Tropicana Field took on an additional hue Sunday, Sept. 7 beyond the trademark blue of the Tampa Bay Rays and orange of the Baltimore Orioles. A full section at the Trop virtually lit up with the bright yellow T-shirts donned by young All Children's Hospital patients, their families and friends in a show of solidarity at the hospital's Cancer Survivors Day celebration.

Researchers working on the PREDICT (Prospective Research on Early Determinants of Illness and Children’s health Trajectories) study will take advantage of the Johns Hopkins Medicine pediatric biorepository at All Children's Hospital which will store samples of blood and saliva from the healthy infants and young children for long-term studies.

In 2014 alone, Safe Kids reports 13 children across the country have died due to heatstroke – two of those incidents happened in Florida.

(Posted on Jun 25, 2014) St. Petersburg – June 25, 2014 - The University of South Florida completed a transfer of 1.4 acres of land to All Children’s Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine, a move that symbolizes the long-term, shared commitment to continuing the training of the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine medical students. The land -- donated by the state to USF in April -- was transferred yesterday by USF as a gift to All Children’s Hospital. The property will be used to develop a research, education and training facility to support innovations in pediatric care and expand the future collaborative efforts of the two organizations.

The baseball touches formed a perfect backdrop for the debut of a new part of the All Children’s team – a culture statement that identifies the core values and guiding philosophy of the organization.

It’s the conclusion of a science project they started at the beginning of the school year.

With the help of thousands of donors this year, the hospital raised $3,926,121 during the 11 ½ hour live broadcast on WFLA-TV News Channel 8, as well as through the taped broadcast on WXCW in the Ft. Myers/Naples area. Money raised through the telethon will directly fund treatment, research, education and advocacy initiatives at All Children’s Hospital.

Our All Children’s Hospital community mourns the loss of Congressman C.W. Bill Young and extends our  heartfelt sympathy to his family, friends and colleagues.  Throughout his career, Congressman Young was a great friend to the Hospital, our patients and families, and to the entire Tampa Bay community. He was instrumental in establishing the National Marrow Donor Program to help children and adults with cancer have a chance to find a matching donor and receive lifesaving treatment.

The grand re-opening of the new Fit4AllkidsVille at Great Explorations Children's Museum is Saturday, March 16. Admission is free to the public from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Great Explorations is located at 1925 Fourth Street North in St. Petersburg.

But the guy who excels with games riding on his famous foot faced some real heat Monday afternoon. Barth, along with Bucs standout punter and placekicker Michael Koenen and steady long-snapper Andrew Economos, raced through a St. Petersburg Wal-Mart on a most unusual shopping spree. The trio of kicking unit specialists were hurriedly searching the shelves and bins to buy some $6,000 worth of toys with their own cash, and then deliver them in time for a scheduled 4:30 p.m. toy drop-off at All Children’s Hospital – and a chance to mingle at an ice-cream social with a roomful of sick youngsters.

Typically, first, second and third year medical students interested in pediatrics plan a 1-2 week intersession during breaks in their medical school coursework. During an intersession, students focus on gaining introductory clinical skills and knowledge and gathering information about choice of specialty as well as where to ultimately apply for residency training.

The first patient to receive a heart transplant at All Children's Hospital traveled to Washington, DC this week to share his story with members of the Florida Congressional delegation. Seventeen-year old Hunter Ratcliffe of Winter Haven met with four members of Congress and one Senator as part of Family Advocacy Day on Tuesday July 24. The event, organized by the national Children's Hospital Association, is meant to remind legislators of the real families impacted by their decisions on children's healthcare issues.

They also have the lowest safety belt use rates of all drivers. This rate is even lower when there are multiple teens in the vehicle. The Battle of the Belts program was initiated in an effort to change these statistics and increase safety belt use amongst teenagers.

(Posted on Jan 24, 2012) Gary A. Carnes, President/CEO of All Children's Hospital and All Children's Health System announced his retirement on Thursday, January 19th effective February 29, 2012. Jonathan Ellen, MD, Vice Dean and Physician in Chief will assume interim President duties on March 1st until a permanent successor is named.
(Posted on Jan 19, 2012) Jan. 19, 2012 (St. Petersburg, FL) After a leadership tenure of fifteen years, Gary A. Carnes will be retiring as president and CEO of All Children’s Hospital, with an anticipated effective date of February 29, 2012.

“All Children’s Hospital is poised to realize its long-held vision of becoming a national and international leader in pediatric treatment, education and research, thanks in large part to the tireless efforts of Gary Carnes,” says Jack Kirkland, Chairman of the Board of All Children’s Hospital. “He has brought us to a seminal moment in the transformation of All Children’s into a leading academic medical center for pediatrics, and our challenge now is to find a leader to build on our momentum as we move toward this shared goal.”

Jonathan Ellen, M.D., current Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine vice dean for All Children’s Hospital and All Children’s Hospital physician-in-chief, will serve as interim president until a permanent president is named.

The seminar will begin at 8:30a.m. and end promptly at 4:20p.m.

Come join in on the fun at The Greek Children's Fund Golf Tournament benefiting All Children's Hospital on January 29th at Eastlake Woodlands Golf Tournament. It is an 18 hole, 4 person scramble format with free driving range practice, a golf goodie bag and wonderful dinner. Registration begins at 11:30am with a shot gun start at 1pm. The cost is $100 player entry fee per golfer.
