Coder II

Description: This position is responsible for accurately and efficiently coding all diagnoses and procedures, accurately assigning the correct DRG for patient specific populations, and for maintaining the integrity of the data collection for inpatient and/or outpatient visits to produce claims, for State and Federal reporting, and for statistical and research information. Coders within this category have demonstrated proficiency in at least one category of patients. Coder II must be able to accurately code inpatients, observation cases, or ambulatory surgery patients, as well as the ability to code less complex cases such as Clinic, Recurring, and Emergency Center accounts.
Requirements: High school graduate or GED required. Requires two to three (2-3) years of coding experience in an acute care hospital. Inpatient and Outpatient coding experience required. Associate or bachelor’s degree in Health Information Technology with certification as RHIA, RHIT, CCS or CPC highly preferred. Computer experience required, Windows preferred. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. Needs ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Good interpersonal skills required. Must have ability to effectively deal with stress and handle multiple tasks at the same time amidst frequent interruptions. Must be able to work independently.
