Provide comprehensive healthcare services to patients of all ages and with all types of cardiac surgical conditions. Elicit histories, perform examinations, perform and interpret diagnostic studies, perform therapeutic procedures, instruct and counsel patients, respond to life-threatening situations, and facilitate the appropriate referral of patients, consistent with their supervising surgeon’s scope of expertise and responsibility delegated to them. Scope of practice may include care delivered in the preoperative, intra-operative, or postoperative arenas.
Current licensure in the State of Florida as a Physician's Assistant. Current NCCPA certification as a Physician's Assistant. Graduate of an approved PA program. Master’s degree from an accredited PA program, preferred emphasis in surgery or equivalent. Preferred PA experience in surgery, pediatric surgery and/or cardiac surgery. BCLS, ACLS and PALS certification required. Expert clinical, written and verbal communication. The cognitive ability to safely administer medications. Physical ability to perform all aspects of patient care, including CPR, in all patient age ranges. Read / write / speak and understand English. Auditory and visual ability to assess and provide patient care. Ability to effectively interact with patients, families, physicians, ancillary and support staff. Ability to effectively manage with an environment of emotional and physical stress. Ability to move about the hospital campus. Ability to perform physical activity including, but not limited to: repetitive motions, feeling, grasping, fingering (pinching, typing, handling, etc.), lifting, pulling, pushing, walking, standing, reaching, crouching, and stooping. Knowledge of theories and techniques for teaching / learning, change, leadership and administration.
