Responsible for performing a wide variety of laboratory assistance functions in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
Must have a High School diploma or equivalent with a strong interest in science. Requires 1 year experience in a laboratory. In lieu of experience, preference given to individuals with experience in a clinical laboratory handling and/or processing patient specimens or accepted and/or currently enrolled in an accredited MT or MLT program. Must demonstrate ability to make decisions with independent judgement, organize work, and to meet deadlines. Requires rigid accuracy in identification & reporting of numbers and names. Requires effective communication skills and discreet handling of confidential information. During patient contact, must be able to communicate with, understand and react effectively to the age-specific needs unique to patients. Must be able to enter computer data in Laboratory Information System and exhibit an ability to use automated instruments and mechanical apparatus with appropriate training. Must be able to move about hospital campus. Light to moderate lifting (up to 25 pounds) required. Requires above average manual dexterity and visual acuity. Must be willing to accept new responsibilities and challenges
