The neurosurgery practitioner is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practice Practitioner or Physician Assistant (ARNP/PA) who demonstrates expertise in the clinical management of the neurosurgical patient. The practitioner role is multi-faceted and includes clinical management of the injured/ill child, neonate and infant, educational responsibilities, administrative duties, consulting, and initiating/implementing research. The neurosurgery practitioner works in collaboration with the neurosurgeons, nursing and support services to provide family centered care. The practitioner maintains active participation in his/her own continued education and professional development. This position requires call participation. Call participation is approximately a1:5 ratio and includes nights and weekends.
Current licensure in the State of Florida as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant.
Graduate of an approved program.
BCLS and PALS certification required. ATLS Audit or TNCC Audit required once during employment, when offered locally. A grace period upon hiring will be granted.
Minimum of 2 years work experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with background in ER, OR / surgical and pediatrics preferred.
Expert clinical, written and verbal communication.
The cognitive ability to safely administer medications.
Physical ability to perform all aspects of patient care, including CPR, on all patients ranging in age from neonate to adult.
Read / write / speak and understand English.
Auditory and visual ability to assess and provide nursing care.
Ability to effectively interact with patients, families, physicians, ancillary and support staff.
Ability to effectively manage with an environment of emotional and physical stress.
Ability to move about the hospital campus.
