All Children's Hospital Medical Explorers Post #979
Medical Explorers is a program offered by All Children's to young men and women ages 15 (and completed the ninth grade) and not yet 21 years old with an interest in learning more about careers in the Health Care field. This program is associated with the Boy Scouts of America.
Monthly programs include:
- Speaking with residents and attending physicians about medical education
- Visiting departments within the hospital
- Listening to doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals speak about their jobs
... and much more!
We meet on the first and third Wednesday of every month during the school year from 4:00pm - 5:30pm for general meetings, which include a speaker, and rounds that provide an inside look into our hospital's areas.
How to Apply
Annually, during the month of September, All Children's will host an open house in which students and families may attend to learn more about our program and to also meet the staff.
After the open house, new members will have an opportunity to apply for a specific number of open spots available, which varies every year. A lottery is drawn to decide which applicants are chosen to be a Medical Explorer.
Existing Medical Explorers will automatically have a spaced reserved for them.
Medical Explorer Requirements
- Must be 15 of age and have completed the ninth grade.
- Must complete necessary applications and a parental permission form.
- Must provide $40 dues.
- Must be willing and able to attend general meetings and rounds.
