May 15 is Application Deadline for the 2012-2013 Designing Clinical Research Program

All Children's and Johns Hopkins Medicine are pleased to announce the continuation of the "Designing Clinical Research Program" at All Children's Hospital. Applications to take part in the second research cohort are due May 15.

Using a combination of structured didactic training and ongoing mentorship, the goal of the program is to support the All Children's Hospital community in developing skills in clinical research and educational scholarship. These skills will include: study question and concept development; appropriate study design, project proposal, IRB application, data collection, management and interpretation; submitting and presenting abstracts; and submitting manuscripts to peer-reviewed publications.

The yearlong program will begin in October 2012 with a weekend retreat that introduces key concepts of clinical research and then will continue with ongoing mentorship through biweekly contact with a research mentor and/or biostatistician. Follow-up workshops will focus on preparing abstracts and presentations for scientific meetings, and providing feedback on research project posters and presentations.

Participants need not have significant previous research experience or a fully developed project idea; the goal of the program is to assist clinicians with project development, study design, biostatistics and presentation of findings.

Applications are due by May 15, 2012. Applicants will be selected for participation in the program based on their level of interest, merit of their project idea and division support.
