All Children’s Hospital Helps Develop and Test Pediatric Adverse Drug Event Trigger Tool

All Children's Hospital was one of 12 children's hospitals from a Child Health Corporation of America (CHCA) collaborative involved in a two phased study which led to the development of the 15-trigger CHCA pediatric-focused adverse drug event detection (ADE) trigger tool, and the subsequent evaluation of this new ADE trigger tool. The study reinforced that trigger tools have a greater ability to identify ADEs than administrative database analysis, hospital-based occurrence reports, and nontriggered chart review. This study was recently published in the April 2008 edition of Pediatrics, and entitled “Development, Testing and Findings of a Pediatric-Focused Trigger Tool to Identify Medication-Related Harm in US Children’s Hospitals”.
