All Children's Hospital Named 2006 Outstanding Business of the Year

(May 25, 2006)  St. Petersburg, FL – All Children’s Hospital was named a 2006 Outstanding Business of the Year by the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce in a ceremony last night at the Hilton St. Petersburg. The Hospital was honored in the category of businesses with 101 or more employees.

“Our Hospital has a proud tradition of service to children and families from St. Petersburg and many other communities,” said Gary Carnes, President/CEO of All Children’s Health System. “Our historic roots in St. Petersburg trace back for 80 years, and our construction of a brand new children’s hospital makes us an exciting part of St. Petersburg’s future.”

“This continued success would not be possible without the dedication of our physicians, employees and the generous support of our community friends. This award is another reminder of the commitment and cooperation that makes us a national leader in caring for sick children.”

Criteria used in naming award winners include history as an established business, impact on the local job market, continued economic development, innovation in services, responsiveness to adversity, and responsiveness to community needs.

Founded in 1926 as the American Legion Hospital for Crippled Children, today All Children’s is a 216-bed regional pediatric referral center with eleven outreach centers and some 2,300 employees. In 2005, the Hospital provided more than 12,000 surgeries, approximately 9,300 inpatient admissions and nearly 297,000 outpatient visits, including more than 33,000 emergency center visits. More than half of All Children’s beds are devoted to critical care services. All Children’s has consistently been ranked among the top 25 children’s hospitals in North America by Child magazine in its biennial performance-driven survey.
