ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- It's about the FOOD, It's about the TUNES, It's about the KIDS. It's the Sweetbay Supermarkets and Angus Pride A Taste of Pinellas presented by All Children's Hospital in partnership with Ruth Eckerd Hall. This year, A Taste of Pinellas celebrates its 20th anniversary on the downtown waterfront. Vinoy Park, adjacent to the Renaissance Vinoy Hotel in downtown St. Petersburg, offers a large, picturesque venue for scores of participating restaurants to serve up their specialties.

Admission to the park is FREE. The Taste is open on Friday, June 2 from 5pm-10pm; Saturday, June 3 from 12noon-10pm; and Sunday, June 4 from 12noon-7pm. Each participating restaurant will prepare and sell tastes of their most popular dishes. Diners purchase sheets of tickets for tastes of their favorites. Tickets can also be used to participate in many other kids’ interactive games and activities.
Since the first event was staged 20 years ago, over $2,000,000.00 has been raised to benefit All Children’s Hospital. Sponsors of the 2006 event include: Sweetbay Supermarkets, Angus Pride, City of St. Petersburg, Budweiser, The Tampa Tribune, WFLA -Newschannel 8, Gillette, Scherer Development LLC, Bert Smith BMW, Rally Convenience Stores, Zephyrhills Water, Purina Pro Plan, Crystal Light, Health Craft Cooking Show, Starbucks Coffee, Leighton’s Honey, The Art Institute of Tampa, Chase Disney Visa Card, ValPak, Magic 94.9, 107.3 The Eagle, 102.5 The Bone, and 101.5 The Point.
This fundraiser is staged in conjunction with the All Children’s Hospital Telethon, broadcast live on WFLA-TV Newschannel 8. On-air personalities will be on hand during Sunday’s festivities with live, in person updates on the action.
While parents graze the food booths throughout the weekend, youngsters will find plenty of activities in the Rally Convenience Stores Kids’ Zone. Activities include a giant water slide, dry slides, an obstacle course, rock wall, bounce houses, make & take activities, costumed character appearances, and storytelling.
New this year at the 2006 Sweetbay Supermarkets and Angus Pride A Taste of Pinellas is the Purina Pro Plan Rally to the Rescue Tour celebrating the growing community of animal lovers. The Rally to the Rescue Tour invites consumers to immerse themselves in a one-of-a-kind environment that provides education, information, and the chance to adopt a lifelong friend. The Gillette Fusion Big Rig Tour is also new this year taking the male consumer into a world of innovation and personal style through interactive activities, live music, and grooming tips. The Crystal Light Bring Out Your Beauty Tour makes a stop at this year’s Sweetbay Supermarkets and Angus Pride A Taste of Pinellas. This upbeat, vibrant and memorable experience engages consumers in everything to do with taste, bringing out their beauty and relevance in their life. The Verizon Magic 94.9 Reading Is Magic area presented by Outback Steakhouse will feature storytelling and education on how to become a tutor or student from 1pm-4pm both Saturday, June 3, and Sunday, June 4.
Kids who have been a part of All Children’s Hospital heart programs are invited to a Happy Heart Party on Sunday, June 4 from 10am – 1pm in the Rally Convenience Stores Kids Zone. This annual event makes it’s debut at this year’s Taste of Pinellas and is presented by All Children’s Hospital, Congenital Heart Institute of Florida, Cardiac Surgical Associates, and Pediatric Cardiology Associates. The Happy Heart Party is sponsored by The Krewe of the Conquistadors of Tampa Bay and the American Heart Association – American Heart Heroes.
The Art Institute of Tampa Cooking Theater returns for it’s second year featuring area chefs sharing their favorite recipes and cooking tips on Saturday, June 3 from 12noon –5pm and Sunday, June 4 from 1pm-5pm. Other attractions during the weekend include a fireworks display on Saturday night, ice carving demonstrations, appearances by Ronald McDonald, the Tampa Bay Buccaneer Cheerleaders, and a complete lineup of musical entertainment scheduled for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The Taste offers FREE national headline on the Sweetbay Supermarkets and Angus Pride main concert stage. On Friday, June 2, the stage features Cheap Trick; on Saturday, June 3, Starship featuring Mickey Thomas opens for Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo; and on Sunday, June 4, Eddie Money rocks the park.
There will be a FREE shuttle service available at the following pick-up/drop-off locations at Bayshore Drive & 5th Ave. South; 4th Ave. South & 1st Street; 2nd Ave. South & 1st Street; 1st Ave. North & 1st Street; and 3rd Ave. North & 1st Street. The shuttle will run approximately every 20 minutes from 4:30pm-11pm on Friday, June 2nd; 11:30am-11pm on Saturday, June 3rd; and from 11:30am-9pm on Sunday, June 4th. There will be some shuttle buses available to accommodate physically challenged individuals.
