Virginia Silvis is the Recipient of the 2012 CRNI of the Year Award
Virginia Silvis, ARNP, CRNI, MS/APN for the Vascular Access Team (VAT) has been selected as the recipient of the 2012 CRNI of the Year Award by the Infusion Nurses Certification Corporation. She has been certified in infusion nursing and has been on the VAT at All Children's Hospital for over 26 years. She will receive the award at the Infusion Nurses Society Annual Convention later this month.
"Virginia exceeds the award criteria by displaying a commitment to infusion therapy and being a strong patient advocate," said Debbie Del Favero, All Children's Director of Hematology/Oncology/HSCT who nominated Virginia for the award. "She promotes the professional image of the infusion nurse and enhances the practice of infusion therapy within the organization. She is the vascular access resource for the entire staff at ACH and encourages fellow team members to become involved in the local and national chapters of the Infusion Nurses Society (INS). She also supports our infusion service through the application of evidence- based practices from the INS Standards of Practice."
Virginia is one of the subject matter experts of the Children's Hospital Association "Reducing Harm from IV Infiltration Collaborative" that is currently focused in the NICU. She is developing the plan for spreading the initiative to all service lines in the hospital to improve patient outcomes. Virginia is involved in the national collaborative of the CHEX knowledge exchange to develop a comprehensive neonatal and pediatric IV practice educational module. Virginia is the co-chair of the CVL Task Force and supports safe care by performing central line rounds in the ICUs, developing policies, practices, and educational programs to help ensure that the CVL insertion and maintenance bundles are followed. She is the leader of our PICC program and is coaching the Vascular Access Team in newly acquired ultrasound and tip location technology.
