Pirates, ballerinas, swordfighters and acrobats from the cast of Gaspar - A Pirate Fantasy visited All Children's Hospital Monday afternoon, bringing cheer to patients and their families and handing out coloring books, colors, and that perennial Gasparilla favorite: pirate beads.
This swashbuckling ballet tells a story of adventure and true love. The cast features local young dancers and acrobats along with principal dancers from Philadelphia, led by nationally known choreographer Christopher Fleming. Gaspar Ballet will perform at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 29 at Tampa's David A. Straz Jr. Center for Performing Arts.
Proceeds from both performances benefit three local non-profits: American Red Cross (Tampa Bay chapter), YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg, and Drew's Shoes, a Tampa charity that supplies dance shoes to needy children. Last year's performances raised more than $60,000 for these groups. Gaspar: A Pirate Fantasy enjoys support from local sponsors, including The Richard & Sharon Sanchez Family Foundation, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Florida, AT&T and the Tampa Bay Rays.
