Update - ACH Employee Death in the News

All Children's Hospital appreciates the concern and interest surrounding the Monday, 3/28/11, loss of an ACH outpatient employee to a blood infection with an organism (Neisseria meningitidis, or meningococcus) that may cause meningitis.

While her immediate family members were those most at risk of exposure to infection, All Children's consulted with county health officials and established a plan to identify patients, families and co-workers who might be considered at limited risk for exposure due to direct contact with this employee.

As of Wednesday night, 3/30/11, all of those individuals (patients/families/employees) identified as being at limited risk had been notified by All Children's Hospital and offered counseling and access to appropriate antibiotic treatment. No one was symptomatic for infection. We are providing information, through one-on-one conversations and through our internal and external websites for families and employees not considered at-risk, but still concerned about their health and safety.

All Children's Hospital wants everyone to rest assured that our facilities are safe and our actions are focused on keeping our valued patients, families and staff protected. At this time, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of our lost colleague.
