Patricia (Patti) Ochipa is the October 2010 All Children's Hospital Employee of the Month. Patti is an RN III on the Transport Team and has been with All Children's since 1987. A fellow employee recognized Patti's Service Excellence and nominated her for Employee of the Month honors. In summary, the co-worker said:
Patti took extraordinary steps when the Transport Team transferred a palliative patient to a hospital in the Orlando area to ensure the patient was comfortable and that the patient's nurses and doctor at the receiving hospital had the necessary information to ensure the patient's proper care, medication, safety and treatment.
Patti's Department Director added:
Patti performed this transfer with compassion, caring and exemplified what Service Excellence, nursing and family focused care at ACH are all about. Patti, along with her teammate, stayed with this patient for three hours at the receiving hospital administering pain medications to keep the patient comfortable and from experiencing pain. The patient's family expressed their appreciation to the Transport Team for the extra time they took to keep their child comfortable. This was such a powerful act because it helped the family as well as the patient during a very difficult time - a time that could have been unbearable.
This single act is something Patti does everyday in her nursing practice. She routinely goes above and beyond to ensure quality and Service Excellence in the care provided to our patients and their families.
