Jonathan Torp, RN is the DAISY Award Recipient for September, 2010

Jonathan Torp, RN is the September, 2010 DAISY Award recipient. He is a Nurse in the Emergency Center and has worked at All Children's for five years. He holds a BSN Degree from St. Petersburg College. The DAISY Award is presented monthly to an All Children's Hospital Nurse that has provided extraordinary service to our patients.

A co-worker recently wrote:

"One day in April, I arrived to work but was having difficulty breathing due to my asthma.  My daughter was called to pick me up and drive me home.  As I sat on the bench inside the EC entrance with co-workers, waiting for my daughter, Jonathan approached and asked me if I was alright.  He convinced me not to get in the car with my daughter but to go back to one of the EC rooms so he could give me some steroids.   Within minutes Jonathan had an IV started, steroids running, a doctor in the room and had me admitted into the system.  When I refused transfer to Bayfront Medical Center because of my pulmonary doctor location, he quickly made the arrangements to have me transported to Manatee Memorial Hospital by EMS.  He stayed with me and kept me calm while waiting for transport. Shortly after my arrival to Manatee Memorial Hospital, I was intubated and placed on a ventilator and spent several days in the ICU.

I truly believe had I gotten in the car with my daughter that night, this story may have ended very differently.  Jonathan took the time to stop, look and see that I was in trouble.  Convincing me to stay was a task in itself but he did it without effort.  At a time when I wasn't thinking clearly he was thinking of me. Thank you Jonathan for all you do on a nightly basis for all of our patients and thank you for being there for me."

"When I first read the nomination letter, I wasn't a bit surprised," said Tom Connor, Interim Director of the Emergency Center.  "Jonathan is a caring and compassionate nurse. He has received several kudos from patients and families over the years which further validate the attention and quality of care he provides for those he encounters. I am proud to have Jonathan on our team."

Thank you Jonathan, for your years of service excellence to All Children's Hospital and your continued passion to pursue perfection.
