Jay Herman, RN Receives the 2010 USF College of Nursing Preceptor of the Year Award
Congratulations to Jay Herman, RN who was selected as the 2010 USF College of Nursing Preceptor of the Year. RN Preceptors teach students skills to be successful in their professional career. Each year, USF nursing students are asked to nominate a preceptor that stands out among the crowd.

Jay joined All Children's in July 2008 and works on 7South. He is a graduate of the University of Toledo and holds an MS Degree in Nursing. He is a previous DAISY Award recipient.

"I have known Jay since the day he started," said Advanced Education Specialist, Alice Ettinger, MSN, ARNP.  "His inquisitive mind and sense of humor makes him a natural as a preceptor for students in hematology-oncology-bone marrow transplant. He can make students, patients, parents, as well as colleagues feel comfortable. He relates very well with patients of all ages and families. He is a natural teacher."

Jay always makes sure his students are given the opportunity to observe new procedures and participate in skills they need to learn. He helps students to provide care to patients while helping them find their way through the maze of interdisciplinary patient care issues.

Shelley Blount, RN was precepted by Jay. She said, "Jay's level of professionalism surpasses all. He sets the bar. He is smart, intelligent, and knows how to answer questions. He is an amazing teacher and I know I can always go to him with a question. As a growing nurse, I look up to him as the nurse I would like to be!"
