Celebrating Nurses Week 2010

Nurses Week 2010 LogoAll Children's Hospital is proud to celebrate National Nurses Week (May 6-12, 2010) and Nurses Day (May 6, 2010) with a variety of activities and events to honor and celebrate our Nurses. This year our theme is Nurses: Caring Today for a Healthier Tomorrow. Annually, National Nurses Week begins on May 6, marked as RN Recognition Day, and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession.

Throughout the week, our nurses will enjoy chair massages on the units as well as gifts that will be distributed. We also have many events scheduled for our nurses, including a Celebration Breakfast, Blessing of the Hands, Panel Discussions and Seminars. The American Nurses Association supports and encourages National Nurses Week recognition programs through state and district nurses associations, other specialty nursing organizations, educational facilities, and independent health care companies and institutions.

Also, as part of Nurses Week, we are taking part in a service activity by donating items for Ronald McDonald House and the Parent "Care Kits," being put together by the All Children's Family Advisory Council. Each ACH department has been asked to contribute different categories of items.

A few Nurse Facts:

  • Did you know there are nearly 3.1 million registered nurses in the United States?
  • The nation's nurses rank first for their honesty and integrity, with 82 percent of Americans rating them "high" or "very high," according to a 2005 Gallup Poll.
  • The American Nurses Association was founded in 1896.

Our caring Nurses are such an integral part of the ACH family and we appreciate their dedication and support. We thank them for all they do each and every day for our families and for All Children.
