Sarah Major, RN is the DAISY Award Recipient for April, 2010
Sarah Major, RN, is the April, 2010 DAISY Award recipient. Sarah works on 8 South. She has been a nurse at ACH for four years. She is a graduate of St. Petersburg College with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

The DAISY Award is presented monthly to an All Children's Hospital Nurse that has provided extraordinary service to our patients.

A family recently wrote:

Sarah has been my son's nurse for the past three nights.  I cannot say enough good words about her skills, compassion and genuine personality as a nurse.  On her first night as his nurse, my son was scheduled to get an NG tube.  The first attempt required oral Versed to calm him down.  When he started to become anxious and combative, she immediately stopped and called the doctor to discuss his sedation.

She advocated for my son to be taken to Special Procedures in the morning so his NG tube could be placed under anesthesia.  It made such a world of difference for my son and really calmed him down.  Since then, she has been so wonderful checking in on him and helping to change his bed and keep him clean.  She is an exceptional nurse and you can tell that pediatric nursing is what she was born to do.  We have been so blessed to have her here at night.  If anyone deserves the Daisy Award it is most certainly Sarah.

"Sarah is a very kind caring person and helps to comfort her patients and their families," said Karen Shepherd, RN, Nursing Director on 8 South. "She takes the time to listen to their concerns and fears and allows them to be part of the plan, giving them some feeling of control. Her warm smile and soft gentle approach is frequently what a frightened child or parent needs during a stressful procedure.  She is a great team player, supportive of her peers. We are all very proud of her accomplishments. She completed her BSN degree while working full-time and continues to grow into a model for the nursing profession."
