Courtney Hubbard is the August 2009 All Children's Hospital Employee of the Month. Courtney works in Child Life as a Child Life Specialist and has been with All Children's since 2007. A Mom recognized Courtney's Service Excellence and nominated her for Employee of the Month honors. The Mom said:
Courtney went above and beyond - my child was very depressed about being in the hospital again (the second time in the past month). He had been here for a week and wasn't able to eat plus he was on IV steroids which make him very grouchy. He was having a very hard day, refusing to speak to anyone, including me. He even rolled over and turned his back to Courtney but she was determined to make him feel better and soon returned with a Nerf gun and the brilliant idea to have my son write all the things that were frustrating him on the dry erase board and then shoot at the board with the Nerf gun. It was the first time he smiled in days! Courtney made the time to help my child on a day that was one of the worse. Even though Courtney was extremely busy, she continued to check in with us and always made my son smile!
Courtney's Department Director added:
This is an excellent example of how Courtney works to bring out positive coping with patients who are stuck and unable to move forward. She demonstrates skill, determination, respect and compassion to patients, families and coworkers. She is able to meet patients where they are emotionally and to find just the right approach to help them begin to feel more in control of their situation. This is always done in Courtney's quiet, respectful manner.
