I recently had a USF nursing student shadow me and she expressed interest in being a NICU nurse after she graduated. We had some free time, so after getting permission from the NICU charge nurse, I took her down to the NICU to look around. We were looking through the window of the first room, when we caught Bev's eye. She waved us in and started to proudly show off her patient. When I explained to Bev why we were visiting, she quickly and excitedly asked if the nursing student wanted to stay -which she accepted without the slightest hesitation. About four hours later, the nursing student returned to me, absolutely glowing. She had in her own words 'fallen in love with the babies'.
In culture where nurses have been known to 'eat their young', I believe Bev played an extremely large and important role in motivating this young lady towards becoming a NICU nurse - impacting countless lives for years to come. Thank you Bev, for recognizing potential and taking time out of your busy day to take someone under your wing and exude love and excitement for your job and your kids!
