Greg Golebieski, RN, is the June 2014 DAISY Award recipient. He is a nurse on 7 North in the Surgical Neuroscience Unit. The DAISY Award is presented monthly to an All Children's Hospital nurse who has provided extraordinary service to our patients.
Greg was nominated by a family member who wrote:
While all the nurses have been wonderful at All Children's, Greg has gone above and beyond. We have been at the hospital for over a month with my nephew and right away, Greg did whatever he could to help. My nephew's illness has been difficult on our family. It was one night early in our stay that I met Greg. Although he wasn't our official nurse for the night, Greg volunteered to give my nephew his medicine. What really touched me was that after he gave him his medicine, he immediately picked him up and rocked him on his shoulder until he calmed down.
Greg continued to come by and help our night nurse. When the IV team came in to fix his IV, Greg came in to offer an extra pair of hands. When his feeding tube tape was coming off, Greg returned to help quiet him down and fix it. Any time I hit the nurse alarm for help, Greg came in right away. The most touching moment was one morning around 2:30 am. My nephew had been squirming a lot due to his illness and couldn't go back to sleep. Greg picked him up and rocked him. I fell asleep to the sound of Greg humming while my nephew talked to him.
Greg has been a blessing to us during our stay at All Children's. His kindness and his passion for helping have been overwhelming and amazing. I cannot think of a more deserving person to receive this award.
Greg's supervisor said:
Greg joined our team last September and has been a tremendous asset to our nightshift and our unit. He is often recognized by his coworkers and families for going above and beyond and always being a team player. His laughter and sense of calm have been a great complement to some of our busiest nights. We are fortunate to have Greg on our team and happy to see him receive this well-deserved recognition.
Thank you, Greg, for the compassionate care you provide our patients.
