Amanda Malo, RN, is the May 2014 DAISY Award recipient. She is a nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The DAISY Award is presented monthly to an All Children's Hospital nurse who has provided extraordinary service to our patients.
Amanda was nominated by a parent who wrote:
The night my daughter had her tumor removed was the worst night of my life. She was in pain and needed exceptional care. My husband had gone home and I was alone in the room when Amanda came in. It was like God had sent hope to me. She was delightful and kind to my daughter. She also took the time to calm my fears and even gave me a shoulder to cry on. She constantly had a smile on her face and seemed to be happy to give a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
Amanda's director added:
Amanda joined our nursing team last November and in her short time in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit she has already made a tremendous impact on our patients and families. She is often noted by our families for her kindness and compassion and has been recognized by her colleagues for her positive and contagious smile. It's comforting to see Amanda's service excellence and high standards for nursing practice are being recognized. We are very proud to have her on our team.
Thank you, Amanda, for the compassionate care you provide our patients.
