Hospital Transport

The All Children's Hospital Transport program provides round-the-clock specialized transport care to critically ill newborns, infants, children and teens.

To arrange for transport call:
All Children's PHYSICIAN ACCESS LINE / Patient Placement Center: 727-767-8311

Our Services
The All Children's Hospital Neonatal & Pediatric Transport Program provides hospital-to-hospital transfer of patients (newborns through age 18) to and from All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg. The patients we transport are admitted to All Children's Pediatric Emergency Center, NICU, CVICU, PICU or another area of our Hospital.

Our three critical care ambulances are specially designed to decrease noise and vibration.  In addition to the critical medical support equipment, they are equipped with TV/DVD players (for our older patients) and multiple levels of communication (radio, cellular and satellite) systems.

We also transport patients by air, either by helicopter (using Bayflite helicopters) or by fixed wing aircraft (through contracted and licensed vendors).

Our Team
Our Transport Team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Team members include specially trained pediatric registered nurses, respiratory therapists and paramedics. They all have neonatal and pediatric critical care experience as well as additional training in advanced cardio-respiratory support and transport critical care.

Neonatal Team:  Nurse and Respiratory Therapist
Pediatric Team:   Nurse and Respiratory Therapist, or Nurse and Paramedic

Team members remain in contact with a neonatologist or pediatric critical care physician at All Children's Hospital for medical management of the patient throughout the transport.

Special Transports
Our team is equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology to meet the needs of critically ill newborns, infants and older pediatric patients. In addition to the standard equipment, we also provide special transport technology, including ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), nitric oxide and heliox therapy.

Helping Patients and Families
All Children's Hospital is an advocate of family-centered care, and our Transport Program strives to accommodate a parent or guardian whenever possible.
Ground transports:  one parent or legal guardian may ride in the front compartment of the ambulance.

Helicopter transports: Due to weight and space limitations, parents are not permitted to ride in the helicopter.

Fixed-wing transports: Depending on aircraft size, a family member(s) may ride along.

When it is not possible for a family member to ride along during Transport, our Team provides directions to All Children's Hospital along with guidance and support for family members.
