Music Therapy at All Children's Hospital

Music Therapy is the use of music to achieve specific goals and is provided by a board certified music therapist.  At All Children’s Hospital, our music therapist uses music in individual and group therapy sessions to help children and families cope with pain, stress, fear, isolation, medical procedures and being in the hospital.  The music therapist works with physicians, nurses, child life specialists, and other staff in a team approach.

Music is often a part of everyday life, and research shows that music affects mental, physical and emotional states.  These qualities make it a valuable and effective tool in helping children and families recover health and well-being.  The benefits of music therapy include, but are not limited to:

  • Relief from pain and discomfort
  • Reduction of stress
  • Improved understanding of medical treatment
  • Improved coping
  • Strengthened immune system
  • Decreased costs
  • Empowerment to participate and have control in treatment
  • Strengthened family bonds
  • Continued developmental growth
  • Improved patient and family satisfaction

Music Therapy can be requested for any child in the medical, surgical, oncology, and intensive care inpatient units.

In partnership with Music Sweet Music, Inc., Music Therapy groups are also available to children through our outpatient Speech and Language Department and our outpatient Physical Therapy Department.
