Neonatology

All Children’s neonatalogy program was founded in 1976 and remains one of the state’s leading referral centers for premature newborns and infants with complex medical problems.

Our team of neonatologists provides care in our 60-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which includes Level 3, Level 2 and progressive care beds. They manage the care of extremely premature and very low birthweight infants, as well as infants born with heart defects or other complex medical problems like cleft palate, Down syndrome, spina bifida and other congenital disorders.

All Children’s neonatologists also work in the newborn nurseries at community hospitals in Pinellas County and several surrounding counties to assist with the care of newborns in distress and, when needed, to facilitate safe transfer to All Children’s Hospital.

Our neonatologists work in cooperation with a wide range of pediatric subspecialists as well as pediatric nurse practitioners, a neonatology social worker, lactation specialists, family educators, nutritionists, pediatric occupational and physical therapists, and speech-language pathologists to provide optimal care for each infant’s special needs.
