(Posted on Oct 8, 2008) The only means to understanding children’s diseases and diagnoses, and expanding treatments and cures, is through research. The National Institutes of Health has launched a Web site on "Children and Clinical Studies." The site describes why research in children is important, how studies are conducted, and how participants' safety and privacy is protected.
(Posted on Aug 13, 2008) All Children’s announces participation in a collaborative of investigators and institutions seeking to accelerate the development of new drugs and therapies leading to the prevention and cure of pediatric cancers. The Sunshine Project, supported by the Pediatric Cancer Foundation, is a collaborative initiative comprised of nearly a dozen nationally known medical facilities that are “fast-tracking” the development and introduction of new drugs and therapies for children with cancer.
(Posted on Aug 13, 2008) The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has released a new online tutorial for education in human research subject protection entitled Protecting Human Research Participants. This free tutorial is designed to meet the NIH human subjects training requirement for investigators and key research personnel for obtaining NIH awards, and replaces the NCI course which has been discontinued.
(Posted on Aug 13, 2008) Dr. Ann Steele has received grant funding from Athletes for Hearts, Inc. for her research on cellular replacement as a means of regenerating or repairing a failing heart. The Athletes for Hearts organization funds advancements in technology for the treatment of heart disease, in addition to providing financial assistance to families with children in need of cardiac medical treatment. More information is available through the Athletes for Hearts organization.
(Posted on Aug 13, 2008) All Children's Hospital was one of 12 children's hospitals from a Child Health Corporation of America (CHCA) collaborative involved in a two phased study which led to the development of the 15-trigger CHCA pediatric-focused adverse drug event detection (ADE) trigger tool, and the subsequent evaluation of this new ADE trigger tool.
(Posted on Nov 29, 2007) Dr. Ann Steele has been chosen "Highlighted Scientist for the Year 2006-2007” by the American Heart Association (AHA) Greater Southeast/Puerto Rico Affiliate. She will be featured in the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association 2006-2007 Annual Report. Dr. Steele’s seminal research on cardiac stem cells as a means for heart injury repair was awarded a three year grant by the AHA last summer.
