Coast Guard Helicopter Lands at New All Children's Hospital

A United States Coast Guard Jayhawk Helicopter did a "touch and go" landing on the rooftop helistop of the new All Children's Hospital on Thursday, January 28. The landing served as a familiarity flight for the Coast Guard and its pilots.

Unlike the more common helipads, The All Children's helistop was built to accommodate much larger military helicopters. These craft are heavier due to their ability to carry multiple patients - a feature that can be critical in case of evacuation for disasters such as hurricanes. No other area hospital helipads can accommodate these craft.

The Jayhawk is a medium-range search and rescue (SAR) helicopter. It is used for drug interdiction, cargo lift, and special operations.
