Materials Management employees pull medical supplies for the list of items being sent to Haiti

ACH’s Pharmacy and Materials Management departments scrambled this past Sunday to meet an urgent request for desperately needed medicines and medical supplies for earthquake ravaged Haiti. All Children’s Hospital board member Mark Mondello contacted ACH CEO Gary Carnes on Sunday with the news that he was working with a private group to put together a mercy flight of supplies and medical personnel to fly to the island nation Monday morning.
Dr. Kevin Hirsch, a surgeon at nearby Bayfront Medical Center submitted a list of requested supplies to ACH on Sunday. Materials Management staff quickly began to pull supplies from our central inventory, while determining how much could be spared without creating a shortage of supplies needed for our hospital patients.
With help from the Suddath moving company, the supplies were quickly packed up and transported to St. Petersburg-Clearwater international airport in time for the flight’s departure, early Monday morning. Local CBS news affiliate Channel 10 reported on the story of the mercy flight and the story is available for viewing on their 10Connects.com website.
All Children’s is coordinating further relief efforts with the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI), Child Health Corporation of America (CHCA), and with officials from the state of Florida.
