Henry L. Shapiro, M.D.
FAAP, Medical Director/Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics

Dr. Shapiro is a Developmental-Behavioral pediatrician specializing in the evaluation and treatment of learning, developmental, and behavioral problems in school age children. He has a particular interest in language based learning problems, and has done research on computer-based intervention for children with language and reading disabilities. Dr. Shapiro is also very involved in professional education. He is the Editor of both the Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics Homepage on the Internet (http://www.dbpeds.org) and the Developmental & Behavioral News for the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Shapiro has been interviewed on numerous occasions by local television media as well as national parenting magazines on topics related to parenting and child development.

Genetics and All Things DNA
Gary Litman, Ph.D.
Director/All Children's Molecular Genetics Program, University of South Florida Hines Professor of Pediatrics/Biochemistry & Molecular Biology.

Dr. Litman has been recognized by the National Institutes of Health with a ten-year MERIT grant for his superior competence and outstanding research productivity. His work assessing the early evolutionary origin of certain elements of the immune system has already yielded important results. It has led to new technologies that resulted in the discovery of two new human genes in Litman's All Children's laboratories. A frequent interview subject, Dr. Litman combines impressive knowledge with a gift for explaining such complex matters as DNA testing in layman's terms.

Neonatology
Jeane McCarthy, Ph.D., M.D.
Neonatologist/All Children's Hospital, Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics/University of South Florida.

Dr. McCarthy is a Board Certified Neonatologist with a Ph.D. in Pharmacology. She has been affiliated with All Children's Hospital since 1977, where she founded and chaired both the hospital's Ethics Committee and its Institutional Review Board, overseeing clinical research protocols within All Children's. Dr. McCarthy consults with the state of Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration on maternal & child health issues and serves as a board member for such diverse community groups as the March of Dimes, Healthy Start, Suncoast Child Protection Team and Operation PAR. In addition to numerous print and broadcast interviews, she is also an active lecturer for groups interested in teen pregnancy, drugs in pregnancy, parenting and what's important in the life of a child.

Pediatric Anesthesia and Pain Management
Linda Jo Rice, M.D.
Pediatric Anesthesiologist/All Children's Hospital, Professor of Clinical Anesthesia/University of South Florida .

Dr. Rice is certified in both anesthesiology and pain management by the American Board of Anesthesiology. Trained at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA., she had a 20-year military career before retiring to private practice in pediatric anesthesiology. Dr. Rice has a lengthy list of publications to her credit, and has lectured world-wide on a variety of topics including the use of regional anesthesia (epidurals/caudals) for children and pediatric pain management techniques. She is active with the American Society of Anesthesiologists and similar organizations in Great Britain, Ireland and Europe as well as the International Association for the Study of Pain. Dr. Rice also consults on the state and national level on outcomes research for pediatric anesthesia patients and developing care guidelines for the management of pediatric pain. An animated speaker, Dr. Rice has been interviewed by local and national media. But she truly delights in the many young patients who refer to her simply as the "sleep doctor."

Jerry Barbosa, M.D.
Medical Director/All Children's Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Program, Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics/University of South Florida.

Dr. Barbosa founded All Children's pediatric cancer & blood disorders program in 1979, and has been the guiding force behind its phenomenal growth. Now one of the largest such programs in the southeastern United States, it enrolls the most patients of any institution in Florida in Pediatric Oncology Group (POG)-sponsored protocols for experimental cancer therapies. Dr. Barbosa is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and its sub-board of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
