about the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)


The All Children’s Hospital NICU is a 97 bed Regional Level IV NICU offering comprehensive intensive care for all premature infants and infants with complex medical conditions.  Areas of excellence include evaluation and management of complex surgical cases such as diaphragmatic hernias, airway abnormalities, complicated cardiac conditions, extreme prematurity, chronic lung disease, and unusual congenital syndromes. 

Contacts, Referral, and Neonatal Transport
The NICU at All Children’s Hospital is pleased to accept referrals from within the state of Florida, the Southeast region, and many neighboring international locations. Referring physicians may contact the All Children’s Hospital’s NICU at (727) 767-4334 for immediate assistance in arranging transport to our facility. Please have access to all relevant patient clinical and identifying information.

The neonatologists at All Children’s Hospital are also available for prenatal and postnatal consultation, both by phone and by video-conferencing. Prenatal consultations with parents and tours of our facility may also be arranged. Please contact (727) 767-4313.

If a NICU admission is anticipated before birth, our neonatologists are available for prenatal consultations and tours of our facility are available.

Education
In addition to being part of Johns Hopkins Medicine, All Children’s Hospital’s NICU is affiliated with the University of South Florida College of Medicine, and is a training site for neonatology fellows, pediatric residents, and medical students. It is also a training site for neonatal nurse practitioner students, pharmacy students, and a number of other educational programs.

Neonatal Outreach
The staff at All Children’s Hospital’s NICU conduct a series of outreach educational programs consisting of lectures and presentations aimed at helping our community pediatricians remain familiar with recent advances in neonatal care. 

Research
The neonatologists and staff at All Children’s Hospital’s NICU participate in a number of national and local research studies focused on improving neonatal intensive care.

Neonatal Follow-up Clinic
All Children’s Hospital offers a Neonatal Follow-up Clinic staffed by pediatricians with extensive experience in monitoring and coordinating the special developmental needs and additional subspecialty follow-up appointments of many of our NICU patients following discharge.
