LABORATORY CERTIFICATION

The Molecular Genetics Clinical Laboratory is certified by the State of Florida (License #800000135) and by the College of American Pathology (License #15309-01) and by CLIA (License #10D0700790). We have participated in quality control tests/surveys administered by the College of American Pathologists and others since 1989.

SHIPPING & SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS

For routine and sequencing testing, we require 2cc whole blood (0.5cc for an infant) collected in an EDTA (lavender top) tube, sent at room temperature.

TURN-AROUND TIME

Routine testing is completed within a target turn-around time of 21 days following specimen receipt. Sequencing tests are completed within 2 to 6 weeks, depending on complexity. Urgent testing has a target completion time of 7 days from specimen receipt. Test results are in the form of a written report, and can be phoned in or faxed in addition, as requested.

Our laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments and analytical tools necessary to perform:

  • Short Tandem Repeat (STR) analysis
  • Multiple Ligation Dependent Probe Amplification (MLPA)

Supervisor: Adam Coovadia, MBA, MB (ASCP), CG (ASCP)
ASCP/NCA National Certification as a Clinical Laboratory Specialist in both Molecular Biology and Cytogenetics; CSMLS certification in Clinical Genetics; State of Florida Certified Supervisor in Molecular Pathology and Cytogenetics; Masters of Business Administration; Honors Bachelors Degree in Biochemistry.
Senior Technologist: Candace Fennell, MB (AAB)
ABB National Certification in Molecular Biology, A.S. Degree in Medical Technology; State of Florida Certified Medical Technologist in Molecular Pathology, Immunology and Serology, Florida State licensed MLT in Microbiology, Immunology/Serology, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology and Immunohematology.
