LABORATORY CERTIFICATION
The Biochemical Genetics Clinical Laboratory is certified by the State of Florida (License #800000135) and by the College of American Pathology (License #15309-01) and by CLIA (License #10D0700790). We have participated in quality control tests/surveys administered by the College of American Pathologists and others since 1982.

Specimens are accepted 24 hours per day/ 7 days per week through the Hospital Clinical Laboratory.
SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS
Plasma, Serum, Urine, CSF
Requirements vary with test. Please look up the test description for specific specimen requirements.
Filter Paper Sampling
For phenylalanine and tyrosine monitoring in PKU patients, filter card sampling is available. The test requires two to four spots of blood applied to a standard infant screening filter card and mailed directly to the Laboratory. Cards and mailing supplies are provided upon request. The Laboratory participates in the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) filter paper proficiency testing program.
TURN-AROUND TIME
Most testing is completed within a target turn-around time of 3 days following specimen receipt. Twenty-four (24) hour turn-around times are available for amino and organic acid requests on acutely ill infants and positive PKU infant screening follow-ups.

The Laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments, including a HP GC/MS and two Amino Acid Analyzers
