Disaster Preparedness

All Children’s Hospital staff is a dedicated team of professionals that consistently work towards the mission of our organization and for the betterment of the communities we serve. During any type of disaster that impacts our communities, families and homes we realize that the events of daily living may become difficult or uncomfortable for all involved. While ACH is committed to doing as much as reasonably possible to support our employees and their immediate needs, we are constantly reminded of our overall responsibility to the care of the patients and families we serve.

Considerable improvements have been made to prepare All Children’s Hospital facilities, staff, patients and families for the possible threat of a hurricane or severe weather. But our job is not done - - it’s up to all employees to also make their own preparations to ensure their families are safe and households secure.

Things to consider prior to the storm arrives

  • ACH campuses are not evacuation sites or shelters.
  • Have your ID badge with you so you may enter the facilities or be permitted
    by law enforcement to access the facilities in the event of a disaster.
  • Each employee should know his or her home evacuation zone & location of shelter. Contact your local county Emergency Management Office  for information.
  • To conserve ACH resources and concentrate on Hospital business, employees should do everything possible not to bring in any dependents to
    the Hospital.
  • Pets are not allowed in the Hospital buildings or on the grounds, including
    parking garages and lots. Learn more about pet hurricane shelters and other alternatives .
  • Staff members should consider the following items in preparation to stay
    for an extended period: change(s) of clothing, medications, and toiletries
    including soap and towel, pillow, blankets and/or sleeping bag. All items should be labeled with your name. Storage is in your own work areas; space is limited and may not be secured at all times. Please note that there is not enough space for portable mattresses or blow-up beds.
  • If, as a last resort, you must bring dependents with you, you must contact
    the command center or your Department Director to inform them of the number of dependents you need to bring in.
  • Employees who must bring in their immediate dependents will be responsible
    for attending to them during times they are not on duty and bringing in necessary supplies as described above.
  • Please remember contingent plans for the care of dependent children or
    adults are always preferred for their safety as well as to conserve Hospital
    resources.
  • Adult family members should seek shelter elsewhere.  
  • The parking garages may not be used to provide shelter for vehicles of employees or others who are not at the Hospital as part of the working staff.

Important Things To Do Now

  • Ask your supervisor for your department’s contact number(s).
  • Give personal phone and/or beeper numbers to your supervisor. This includes contact information for where you may be reached in the event you are evacuated.
