Moms provide the first home to their growing babies. Good nutrition and exercise are two health promoting activities that moms to be can do to ensure a better environment for their baby to grow and develop. Everything you consume is also consumed by your baby. Giving yourself the best nutrition ensures that baby also receives the important vitamins and minerals essential to proper growth. Exercise will make you stronger and more physically and mentally prepared for the journey ahead.
This is why All Children’s Hospital presents Fit4AllMoms, a program dedicated to the health and fitness of moms-to-be and their babies. Fit4AllMoms offers online fitness and nutrition resources to help you during your pregnancy, an educational class you can attend, and a clinical research program for select patients of All Children’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialists.
When am I due?
Your due date can be calculated based on a formula known as Naegele's Rule - if you know the date of the first day of your last menstrual period before your pregnancy, we can estimate your due date! Remember, you should always rely on your healthcare provider's assigned due date.
How fit am I? How much weight should I gain in my Pregnancy?
An estimate for how much weight you should gain in your pregnancy is based on your Body Mass Index, or BMI.
In order to calculate your BMI enter in your pre-pregnancy weight in pounds and your height in feet and inches. This will give you a number that represents your BMI or body mass index --using this number, we can determine your proper weight gain for pregnancy.
With a pre-pregnancy BMI in the underweight range, it is recommended that you gain 28-40 pounds during the course of your pregnancy.
With a pre-pregnancy BMI in the normal range, it is recommended that you gain 25-35 pounds during the course of your pregnancy.
With a pre-pregnancy BMI in this range, it is recommended that you gain 15-25 pounds during the course of your pregnancy.
With a pre-pregnancy BMI in this range, it is recommended that you gain 10-25 pounds during the course of your pregnancy. (Based on a recent study*)
With a pre-pregnancy BMI in this range, it is recommended that you gain 0-9 pounds during the course of your pregnancy (Based on a recent study*).

Fit4AllMoms Classes for the Community
All Children's Hospital and Kohl's present a 90 minute educational class open to all moms to be. The class will cover prenatal fitness, nutrition and cooking. The class is facilitated by a registered dietician and culinary expert who will explain the importance of prenatal nutrition and walk participants through cooking demonstrations. Classes for 2012 will be held at the All Children’s Education and Conference Center starting in May. The official schedule will be coming soon.
