International Walk to School Day is Wednesday, October 3!

2011 International Walk to School day at North Shore Elementary SchoolInternational Walk to School Day is Wednesday, October 3. All Children's Hospital in conjunction with Florida Suncoast Safe Kids and Safe Routes to School is making a difference to reduce the number of child pedestrian deaths and injuries in our community. International Walk to School Day is a fun and effective way to promote health and safety for kids walking to school.

More than 60 schools are registered to participate in a four-county area. Close to home, All Children’s is joining with the Tampa Bay Rays and the City of St. Petersburg at Campbell Park Elementary. A caravan of more than 50 kids will be joined by Mayor Bill Foster and Rays’ mascot Raymond for the walk. Campbell Park Elementary has recently started a Walking School Bus, encouraging parents and children to walk to school each morning.

If you'd like to help raise awareness about pedestrian and bicycle safety issues, please join us on October 3 -- just look up your child's school on the International Walk to School Day website to see how you can participate.
